The municipality El Pinar de El Hierro is located on the smallest of the Canary Islands, the also known as the Isla del Meridiano ("Meridiano Island"), which holds the distinction of Biosphere Reserve.
This municipal area is located in the extreme South of Europe, it has a very wide natural wealth and nearly 80% of its territory is protected.
It starts about 1500 m high with laurel and pine forests and descends all the way down to the sea going through paths, hieroglyphs, almond trees and figs, recreational areas, viewpoints, volcanic cones and rope lavas that melt into the sea. It is protected by the “Punta de La Restinga Mar de Las Calmas” Marine Reserve.
El Pinar may also refer to the union of Taibique and Las Casas which, together with La Restinga, form the core of the municipal population. Our villages are not only a mountain tourism destination but they are also memory, tradition, customs, celebration, heritage and passion.
To these features we should add great marine resources; its seabed is considered one of the greatest in the world for recreational diving and there it is celebrated, among other contests, the well known Open Fotosub Isla de El Hierro.
